Helen Lock is a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in The Guardian, the Independent, City Metric, Retail News, and elsewhere.
She is a recent recipient of the IJP George Weidenfeld bursary and worked at the German national newspaper Die Welt, in Berlin. Previously a commissioning editor at the Guardian’s Higher Education Network, her writing is focused on topics including higher education, tech, business, gender, and mental health. Having covered stories on the benefits of tech on workplace wellbeing, Brexit's impact on freelancers, the conundrum of co-living spaces, the perils of private universities, and tech’s role in tackling domestic violence, she is passionate about telling complex stories in a simple and compelling way.
